Cybervale is pleased to announce V.92 support on its 939-5861 access number. V.92 is an international standard for 56K data communications which increases upload speeds, allows data calls (Internet connection) to be put on hold to accept or initiate a voice call and shortens the time taken to establish a connection.
The features are outlined below:
**Modem on Hold (MOH)**
With a V.92 modem, MOH software (which usually comes packaged with the modem) and call waiting enabled (do not dial ‘*70, 939 5861’) you will now be able to accept or reject incoming calls while you are on the Internet. Additionally, with 3-way calling you will be able to put the Internet connection on hold to make a call. You are allowed 4 minutes of hold time; if the data connection is not resumed within this time the connection will be dropped.
**Quick Connect**
With Quick connect, the time it takes to make a connection will be reduced by approximately 33%. This is achieved as your modem stores the phone line characteristics (usually determined on each dial-up attempt) and uses the stored values, in essence, reducing the total time needed to establish the connection.
Theoretically, any V.92 modem should work however, it is still a relatively new technology and there might be implementation issues with particular brands of client modems. Check the modem manufacturer’s website for information regarding driver upgrades to enable V.92 for your modem (search www.google.com for the website if you are not sure).
Among the modems used to test the feature were Lucent (agere), NetoDragon and Singlepoint Cnet. The features worked fine with the Cnet and NetoDragon** modems however, attempts with the Lucent Modems were not successful. The Lucent modem is packaged as V.92 but the Net-On-Hold application that is bundled with the modem did not recognize it as such. V.92 modems are available at CyberSurf (988 7873), in Portmore, and at Teletrends (749 0860), in Spanish Town.
**NetoDragon modems have been known to pose installation problems with different motherboards however, if installation is smooth there should be no problems
