EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP

INTRODUCTION

“Leadership is not a magnetic personality – that can just as well be a glib tongue.  It is not ‘making friends and influencing people’ – that is flattery. Leadership is lifting a person’s vision to higher sights, the raising of a person’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations.”

Peter Drucker

To remain a viable competitor in today’s business environment requires vision, and the commitment and creative input of all players in an organisation.  The art of fostering a shared vision and enlisting the commitment of subordinates as well as colleagues is no easy task – one approach does not fit all situations. A recognition of the issues critical to achieving this, will help us to develop flexibility in our leadership style, so that it is effective in different situations.
